I don't watch the X factor, and I don't intend to start. Ever. I shamefully admit watching Pop Idol the first time round, only because of spousal pressure. Who actually remembers the also rans from that first series? Will Young won it, of course, and actually used it as a springboard rather than a selling point. Then G-G-G-Gareth G-G-G-Gates, and of course the fool from Popstars.
Then came Girls Aloud, and credit where it's due, they've done a pretty damned good job. Purely for Cheryl Cole if nothing else!
Since then, it's all been a huge cash in, a continuous conveyor belt of anonymous nobodies who have less talent combined than John Lennon's little toenail. Yet Simon Cowell has continued churning out this shite year on year, people keep watching and voting for these people, and then buying the winner's single, which is conveniently released in time to kill off the fun that is the race for Christmas Number One.
I shouldn't be surprised though, after all, it's a tried and tested formula. Who can remember Larry Parnes in the early sixties, and his collection of talent - Billy Fury, Marty Wilde, Vince Eager and Johnny Gentle (whom the Beatles backed briefly on a tour in Scotland)?
So I would say if anything is to blame for killing the British music business, it is the X Factor and that swine Cowell.
He recently said that he wouldn't have given much hope for the Beatles. What the f**k???!!
I would take Ringo on his own above any of his 'talent'.
I would much rather listen to Revolution 9 than any X Factor winner.
Is Leona Lewis ever going to produce an album on the scale of Sgt Pepper? I doubt it.
No one will ever cram as much into 7 years as the Beatles did - 13 albums, countless stand alone number one singles, films, and a songwriting power unrivalled in modern music.
I'd better stop there because you'll lose interest otherwise!!
Goodbye for now... and please support the British music business!!!!!
